Johann Evangelist Brandl was a versatile composer considered by his contemporaries to be ‘one of the most estimable composers of our time.’ His output covers every standard genre of his day except for keyboard music. Roughly 70 songs from his pen appeared in print; his church music was left unpublished; his Six String Quartets op. 17 bear a dedication to Joseph Haydn.
